It is an interesting feeling to put a project on Kickstarter.com because there is no guarantee that you will reach your goal. It is transparent, nerve wracking and will leave a guy feeling vulnerable. Kind of like a little fish in a big pond.
It is a platform in which you tell your story of a project need, in which you offer rewards for support backers. It is also an all or nothing platform meaning you must reach your goal to move forward with the project. Based on an algorithm relating to URL shares and funds raised will determine where you stand on the popular page (or not popular...) which also makes a massive difference in how the project finishes.
Never did I dream that I would one day have a small business fit into the fashion category on a major website like this. That word "fashion" just never seemed to fit since this is more than that. It is a lifestyle, an inspiration, humanitarian effort AND tool for adventure. Maybe I'll have to create my own category since it is more a comparison to Nitro Circus, music festivals, Crankworx, To Write Love On Her Arms, Teton Gravity Research, prAna, Chris Burkard Photgraphy, Everyday California, etc.
Maybe these are just inspirations, but the fact that we are somewhat of an outlier in a big industry is a reality. Here, I have a lot to learn and a long ways to go and this Kickstarter is a push in that direction. If you know our story, you know it makes a big difference in a lot of lives. Not just the inspired but financially for those who are in need.
Check it out and leave me some feedback. The good, the bad, the ugly. OK maybe not the ugly...
